Picasso Lawn and Landscaping is proud to serve the entire region around the great city of Indianapolis. Hamilton County is, of course, part of our clientele. Within the county is a city known as Fishers that has experienced intense rapid growth over the past two and a half decades, something it has in common with our landscaping company. It has attracted people from all over due to its business friendly atmosphere, and clean, beautiful neighborhoods. Our company is happy to say that we have done and continue to play a role in beautifying both the business and the residential areas of this rising city. We would love to add you to our expanding roster of clients.
The settlement that became Fishers, Indiana was settled in 1802 by William Conner. After Indiana was granted statehood in 1816, the Treaty of St. Mary’s was signed, and more settlers began moving into the general area. They found Conner’s trading post to be a convenient location. Seven years after Indiana’s statehood, Hamilton County received its official charter, as well as Delaware Township. A post office was built, and named Fisher’s Switch. Blacksmiths and millers entered the area, and towards the middle of the 19th century, the railroad made its way through.
For the first two centuries of its existence, Fishers remained a very small community, with just 628 people in 1970. As of the 2010 census, it has 76,794, with a 2015 estimate of 88,658, who reside over an area of 35.84 square miles. For two years in this decade, it has been ranked the safest city in the United States.
Fishers does not have its own independent public school district. Instead, its public school children attend Hamilton Southeastern School District, which is jointed with the neighboring city of Noblesville. It consists of 12 lower elementary schools, three upper elementary schools, three junior high schools, and two high schools. This district performs above average, with two of its schools being awarded blue ribbons.
Fishers is a large suburb, and unsurprisingly has businesses that are a wide range in size. Navient is the city’s largest business, employing 1,700 people. It is followed by its school district, Roche Diagnostics, Freedom Mortgage, and Marsh Supermarkets. Of course, there are a wide range of small businesses that are individually or family owned similar to Picasso Lawn and Landscaping.
There is a large retail and shopping district within the city, with individual boutiques and shops, and large corporate owned franchises such as Target and Walmart.
The city hosts two annual festivals. At the end of June, the celebration of Independence Day gets underway early with the Fishers Freedom Festival. Among its attractions are a festival food area, arts and crafts, an entertainment area with live music and talent demonstrations, a game tent, and a children’s tent. The main events of the festival are the annual parade, the 5k run and two mile family walk, the dog disc competition, and capping the event is the fireworks display on the final evening of the festival.
As fall arrives, the Fishers Renaissance Fair is held at the first weekend of each October. This is a newer annual event, beginning in 2005. This fair honors Fishers’ sister city of Billericay, England. Set with a medieval theme, there is jousting, a period village that consists of reenactment scenes, jesters and period style musicians, and even magic shows. Of course, there are also plenty of food and drinks to be served, as well as a variety of activities geared towards children.
